8. Deadpool, Volume 3
Mirroring the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase 2 hiring of new directors to best service the new directions the franchise's characters were going in, Marvel hired comedian Brian Poeshn and writer Gerry Duggan to write the suitably barmy adventures of the fourth wall breaking, "Merc with the Mouth". Duggan and Poeshn's Deadpool is situated in a world as silly and irreverent as the titular antihero. The first storyline in the new run had the mercenary embark on a S.H.I.E.L.D sanctioned mission to destroy the reincarnated former presidents, who were dissatisfied with the way the US has been run in their absence and were hell bent on reshaping America by any means possible. Later issues have featured encounters with several of Marvel's biggest names, including a team up with Captain America and Wolverine in "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" arc; and several excellent flashback stories which have allowed the writing duo to tell new Deadpool stories in some of the more colourful times in Marvel's history. With upcoming issues featuring Deadpool's marriage to the Queen of the Dead and a flashback to a time when the mercenary fought a time travelling Hitler (an inevitable battle), it looks like Duggan/Poeshn's title is going to remain as unpredictable and acerbic as ever.
