Uncanny X-Men #10 Review

Are the X-Men finally back with a bang?

The final part of the X-Men Disassembled storyline has one hell of an ending. X-Man, an alternate universe Nate Grey, has come back as the messiah of the world, changing it to be a utopia in a strange twist to the Age of Apocalypse, complete with his Horsemen of Salvation. Legion knows the world’s off, and he uses his powers to get most every member of the X-Men to stop him.

Plot-wise, this is little more than the big end-battle then some monologuing until the final pages which really lay the groundwork for restructuring mutantkind. The majority of this book is very much a culmination of the previous nine parts so it is hard to truly talk about without spoiling. However, there is an epic battle between the X-teams and the Horsemen of Salvation, which includes a brilliant line from Storm, pictured below.

Ed Brisson, Kelly Thompson and Matthew Rosenberg are three of the biggest writers for currently plying their trade at the House of Ideas, and despite the majority of this issue being action-oriented, they still manage to give every character who gets a line a distinct personality.

Pere Perez’ art also captures action perfectly, honing in on integral confrontations and illustrating the powers of the mutants superbly.

As a standalone issue it's pretty good, but it is also a finale to the previous 10 issues. It exceeds in both respects. Four stars!
