007 Reasons Why Quantum of Solace is a Great Bond Film

004. The Villain

I like Bond villains to have a little quirk- Franz Sanchez and his iguana, Le Chiffre weeps blood and has an inhaler, Renard can€™t feel pain, Alec Trevalyan€™s scarred face, Dr. No has metal hands€ but the best villains are those who are just normal people (Telly Savalas€™ Blofeld, Mr. Big, Elliot Carver), who may have an ego but are terrifying real and feel like they could exist in our society. Dominic Greene is another worthy addition to the canon. Perhaps it€™s the Napoleon complex, perhaps it€™s his accent, but because he€™s not a megalomaniac but rather a calculating businessman and is no match for Bond physically, it€™s the pathetic nature of him that makes him so rounded and believable. He€™s out for money, and he€™s very subtle. No genius schemes to take over the world, but he has a very nasty side to him. I love his very understated, unremarkable introduction where he tells Camille of how he injured his piano teacher as a child. He€™s essentially just a nasty little man, and it was a nice change from the traditional Bond villain.
