10 2016 Movie Characters Who Probably Died Horrible Deaths

Just when bank robber Toby Howard (Chris Pine) thinks he's gotten away with ripping off the Texas Midlands Bank to pay off the lien on his family ranch, along comes retired Texas ranger Marcus Hamilton (Jeff Bridges) to have a final sniff around.

In an insanely tense standoff, Hamilton tells Toby he knows that he robbed the banks, but not why, while Toby not-so-subtly implies he did it for his sons.

Toby ends their chat by suggesting that the two meet up in town to "finish the conversation", and Hamilton seems happy to do it. The film ends with Hamilton leaving the ranch, but their battle stage is all-but-set.

Considering Toby's comparative youth and the drive he has to see his children again compared to Hamilton's lonely listlessness portrayed throughout the film (he's a widower), it seems likely that Toby would win any shootout.

A potentially depressing fate for an unexpectedly forlorn character, then.
