Many people who saw Julia Ducournau's twisted French tale of sisterly relationships and cannibalism at a veterinary college will never want to see it, or anything like it, again. Garance Marillier is tremendous in the leading role as a woman struggling with sexual awakening at the same time as something more sinister is stirring within her.
The film's final shot makes it clear that cannibalism runs in the protagonist's family. It's a haunting revelation given real weight by the subtle work Laurent Lucas does with his performance as the central character's father.
With that in mind, there's an interesting family dynamic that a sequel could explore, perhaps delving further back through the family tree to uncover more about the inner turmoil.
