10 2017 Movies That Definitely Deserve Sequels

4. The Big Sick

Atomic Blonde Charlize Theron
Lionsgate

This might seem like a bizarre entry for this list, given it seems to tell the entire story of star Kumail Nanjiani and real-life wife Emily Gordon, played by Zoe Kazan in the movie. The film ends with Emily heckling Kumail at a stand-up comedy gig he's doing in New York City, having joined him from Chicago.

It's at this point that the film ends, giving way to a montage of photographs of Kumail and Emily from their wedding and their lives together. There's a nagging sense when the movie ends that the rejuvenation and progress of their relationship could have been explored in the film, making the most of the comic chemistry between the stars.

A sequel could show Kumail and Emily coming together and dealing with their respective careers as they take off. It might not have the inherent drama of The Big Sick, but given the comedic credentials of those involved, it could really work.
