10 2017 Movies That Definitely Deserve Sequels
3. Atomic Blonde
David Leitch left his co-directorial role on the John Wick sequel to take the helm of spy thriller Atomic Blonde, which features Charlize Theron as a top-level agent working in the days before the fall of the Berlin Wall. It's a fast-moving action movie with some virtuoso single-take fight sequences in which Theron takes a real walloping.
The film weaves a labyrinthine narrative with Theron at its heart. It creates a world of MI6 spies and shadowy conspiracies around the central character, who is a perfect combination of James Bond and John Wick. It would be a shame to see that nicely crafted protagonist thrown away on a standalone movie.
There's plenty of room for Atomic Blonde to spin off into interesting sequel directions. Theron's character has been established as capable of working as a double, or even triple, agent. This creates plenty of compelling scenarios for the character in future franchise installments, which could give Leitch an action hero to rival Keanu Reeves and his doomed canine companions.
