10 2017 Movies That Definitely Deserve Sequels

2. Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie

On paper, it didn't seem like Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie was going to be anything special. It's an animated movie adapted from a popular series of children's books, made on a fairly low budget. Despite that, the film is actually an utter delight, with more lavatorial gags than you can shake a (pooh) stick at and surprising visual invention considering the lack of money put into the project.

The film wasn't quite the box office success it could have been, though it did make money as a result of its low budget. That leaves the door wide open for a potential sequel. Author Dav Pilkey has written 12 books, along with three spin-offs, in the series. This creates plenty of material for all new fart jokes and pratfalls.

Hopefully, DreamWorks will grasp the opportunity for a franchise here with both hands. The first Captain Underpants film is a delight for immature children and even more immature adults, so there's no reason a sequel won't be equally enjoyable.
