10 "New" Movies That Just Ended Up Ripping Things Off
4. Jigsaw Recycles Its Own Series' Plot Twists
And now, we come to a movie that had gall enough to effectively ripoff its own franchise predecessors.
Jigsaw was designed as a soft reboot for the Saw franchise, but oddly enough, both of its major plot twists are just lazy rehashes of rug-pulls from prior Saw movies.
Firstly, it's revealed in act three that the timeline isn't quite what fans think it is, and the very end of the movie introduces yet another new Jigsaw apprentice to keep the franchise alive for a few more films.
Both of these twists originated in previous Saw movies, with the latter reveal proving especially familiar, what with the new killer even faking his death in similar fashion to John Kramer in the first movie, and taking up the mantle just like Detective Hoffman in Saw IV.
Fans hoped Jigsaw was going to be fresh and bold, but instead it's effectively an effortless rehash of what came before.
