10 '70s Sci-Fi Movies You Need To Watch Before You Die

6. Invansion Of The Body Snatchers (1978)

Silent Running
United Artists

What works well about Invasion of the Body Snatchers is the pacing. At the very start, we are given a little hint of the events that are about to come through a travelling race of gelatinous creatures that have landed on Earth. The film then introducers us to its lead protagonists and takes it time to develop them, before the mysterious occurrences begin.

Health inspector Michael Bennell takes further investigations when a co-worker of his notices her husband has suddenly changed, before several others come forward claiming that their partners are not what they seem. They soon discover that humans are being replaced with exact replicas who have no motion and are in quest to replace anyone.

It’s a terrifically suspenseful film with many fantastic acting performances from the cast. The detail of the facial expressions and emotions, particularly in Donald Sutherland and Veronica Cartwright, makes the invasion seem much more real and threatening. Furthermore, it provides us with a wicked ending, one which leaves you pondering over the film for ages after viewing.
