10 Acclaimed Recent Movies That Audiences HATED

5. Kinds of Kindness

Kinds of Kindness
Searchlight Pictures

Though black comedy anthology film Kinds of Kindness was the worst-reviewed of Yorgos Lanthimos' major projects, it still settled at a respectable 71%, with many praising its ambitious execution and the stellar performances from Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons.

Audiences en masse weren't quite having it, though, with the audience score sitting at just 49% - a steep drop from even Lanthimos' most polarising prior efforts, such as The Killing of a Sacred Deer (63%) and The Lobster (65%).

This may be in part because Kinds of Kindness has a more nebulous premise and vague thematic throughline, while the various characters played by Stone and Plemons are also trickier to nail down.

Couple this with a testing 164-minute runtime and the general sentiment that it's one of the filmmaker's weaker films, and it's not terribly surprising that general viewers were less patient with and appreciative of it than critics.
