10 Acclaimed Recent Movies That Audiences HATED
4. In a Violent Nature
There's a grand tradition of horror films picking up a ton of buzz on the festival circuit, only to be received with far greater indifference, even hostility, when they hit general release.
And in recent times that's no truer of any horror flick than In a Violent Nature, which received critical raves out of its premiere at last year's Sundance Film Festival.
And though critics generally vibed with its artsy deconstruction of the slasher genre - defined by long, quiet takes focused on the killer, with only fleeting splashes of brutal gore - it ultimately scored just 44% audience approval.
It's hardly a shocking outcome given that most critics were a little more aware of what they were getting into ahead of time, while the trailers for In a Violent Nature played up the ominous vibes and violent murder, focusing less on the film's patient pacing.
And if we're honest, the film's Slow Cinema style was always bound to be divisive anyway - it's just not something all types of horror fans were ever going to enjoy.
When the recently announced sequel is released, though, audiences should be a little more aware of what to expect.
