10 Actors Who Can't Help But Play Themselves

3. Bruce Campbell

Going so far as playing himself in My Name is Bruce, Bruce Campbell has made a career of spoofing himself and his character of Ash from Sam Raimi's Evil Dead series. Becoming a cult icon as Ash, it's murky as to whether Campbell constantly plays himself in every role or if he's merely mimicking his performance as Ash. Either way, fans of Bruce Campbell eat it up on a regular basis, with the actor having obsessive fans across the globe. Sure, most of them are regularly campaigning for another Ash-centred Evil Dead movie, but they all have an unwavering loyalty to seeing Bruce Campbell give a Bruce Campbell performance, whether it be in small roles in major movies like Spider-Man or in leading roles in smaller pictures like Maniac Cop. Regardless of quality or originality, Campbell is an icon to many, and those many love to just see Bruce do what he does best: play an amped-up, lumbering version of himself. Exception To The Rule: In Don Coscarelli's brilliant Bubba Ho-Tep, Campbell plays an elderly Elvis Presley. Sharing a nursing home with an elderly African-American man who claims to be JFK, the unlikely duo battle with a soul-hunting ancient Mummy. In a change from playing himself or Ash, Campbell is simply fantastic as the elderly Elvis.
