10 Actors Completely Cut Out Of Huge Movies

1. Ana De Armas - Yesterday

Test audiences can be an incredibly valuable tool to a filmmaker, because they can offer an insight into how certain parts of a movie will be received. As such, it was felt that when Jack's (Himesh Patel) eyes drifted from Ellie (Lily James) to Ana de Armas' character in Yesterday, it complicated and weakened the overall romantic story.

The decision was made to cut de Armas completely, much to the pain of director Danny Boyle who said that she was radiant in the role. This was, however, for the greater good of the movie and the overarching narrative of Jack and Ellie's relationship.

What is slightly odd here is that while de Armas was cut completely from the film, she wasn't cut from the trailers. Naturally, anyone who saw the marketing had every right to expect her to appear, and when she didn't it caused a problem specifically with two audience members.

Some actors can sell tickets based on their name alone, and though Ana de Armas was still a couple of months removed from Knives Out stardom, she drew two people to watch Yesterday specifically just because of her appearance. When she didn't show up, the duo actually tried to sue Universal for false advertising, but were of course denied.
