10 Actors Completely Cut Out Of Huge Movies

5. Tobey Maguire - Life Of Pi

In the most basic and most general of terms, in theory the more famous an actor becomes, the greater the choice of roles on the table for them. Obviously, this may not always be the case, but typically star power counts for a lot in the movie business.

One actor that actually lost out on a role due to their fame was Tobey Maguire. Propelled to mainstream stardom by his role as Peter Parker in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, something that still sees him held in high regard today, the actor was seen as too famous by Ang Lee to ultimately appear in Life of Pi.

The role was a relatively small one, with Lee saying that it was too small for someone so famous as Maguire. Here, that star power would be a detriment as it would pull focus and steal attention from the scene itself.

The problem is that by the time Ang Lee came to this decision, Maguire had already been cast. He was ultimately replaced by the much less recognisable Rafe Spall (pictured above), but not before Tobey had already filmed his scenes.
