10 Actors Completely Cut Out Of Huge Movies

In any kind of spin-off, reboot, or sequel, there will always be ties to the original movie. Whether it's for a touch of fan service or a genuine story-led reason, these things will always be connected. This could be in the form of something subtle, like a line of dialogue or a background detail, or it could be a little more on the nose with a cameo or two.

Ocean's 8 is no different. The female-led spin-off from Ocean's 11 included two cameo appearances by characters from the original, namely Elliott Gould's Reuben Tishkoff and Qin Shaobo's Yen, but there was almost more. Matt Damon actually got so far as to film his scenes, but was cut completely along with Carl Reiner's Saul Bloom.

Damon played Linus Caldwell way back in Ocean's 11, and made subsequent appearances in 12 and 13, however there was just no room for him in the latest film in the franchise.

While director Gary Ross insists that this was done purely for story reasons, and that the plot of the film ultimately went in another direction, it's difficult to ignore the fact that there was a petition to have the actor removed in the wake of controversial remarks he made about Harvey Weinstein and the #MeToo movement in 2017.
