10 Actors Who Almost Played 2019's Biggest Roles
3. Tommy Lee Jones - Luke Hobbs; Hobbs & Shaw
The Fast and the Furious has seen a huge shift in tone ever since Fast Five raced its way in to cinemas. Stepping away from the street racing and relatively smaller crimes of the early noughties franchise instalments, the series has delved further and further in to the realms of the absurd, tackling espionage, skydiving muscle cars, and now superhuman villains.
All of this was bolstered by the addition of Luke Hobbs, a name almost as synonymous with Dwayne Johnson as his professional wrestling handle of The Rock. Johnson's imposing build and fiery charisma has shaped the character in to the spin-off leading heavyweight that he is; but it was almost so different.
Early versions of the script wrote Hobbs as an aged lawman, with Tommy Lee Jones pegged for the role. This casting would have changed the future face of the franchise enormously, and most likely played more similarly to Kurt Russell's Mr. Nobody.
