5. Cary Elwes - The Princess Bride Remake

UNCHARTED Movie
Lionsgate

Back in 2019, Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Tony Vinciquerra stated that there have been tentative discussions about a remake of the 1987 fantasy-comedy classic The Princess Bride, noting that "very famous people whose names I won't use" are keen to get the project going.

So while it remains to be seen whether or not the remake actually goes into production - knowing Hollywood, it will - original star Cary Elwes, who played hero Westley in the '87 film, opined that remaking The Princess Bride would basically be tantamount to sacrilege:

"There's a shortage of perfect movies in this world. It would be a pity to damage this one."

While it's up for debate whether or not a bad remake of a classic movie "damages" the original, it's certainly easy to agree with Elwes' sentiment.

The original film is such a singular piece of work, with a timeless, earnest charm that would be difficult to satisfyingly replicate today within our cynical present.
