10 Actors Who Apologised For Their Behaviour In Major Movies
5. Marlon Brando (Mutiny On The Bounty)
By many accounts, Marlon Brando - while a genius actor - was not an easy individual to work with. Showing up late, not knowing his lines... the list of his reported indiscretions goes on, and one of his most ridiculous bits of behaviour occurred on the set of the 1962 historical drama Mutiny On The Bounty.
Not only was the production itself an absolute nightmare - bad weather, a fired director, etc - but Brando himself proved extremely difficult to handle, and also clashed with co-stars Trevor Howard and Richard Harris on numerous occasions.
The biggest problem that Brando brought to the production was that he chose to improvise many of his lines, which made it difficult for the other actors to pick up their cues. He also took the baffling step of performing with cotton wool shoved in his ears, which greatly annoyed Howard and Harris. Apparently, Brando did this because he didn't want anyone to "contaminate his performance". Classy move. The actor was also frequently late to set, which didn't help matters.
In the end though, Brando wrote a lengthy letter to Howard apologising for his bad habits during the shoot, and the two later appeared in another film together - the 1965 war drama Morituri.
