10 Actors Who Are Unrecognisable In Upcoming Movies

6. Tom Hanks - Elvis & Pinocchio

Tom Hanks is one of the most recognisable and iconic actors on the planet, and so it's typically not easy for him to disappear into a role, though he'll certainly give it the college try this year - twice, in fact.

First up, Hanks is going under heaps of makeup to portray Elvis Presley's manager Col. Tom Parker in Baz Luhrmann's upcoming Elvis biopic.

Because he bears no real resemblance to the actual Parker, Hanks is wearing a substantial fat-suit, facial prosthetics for his jaw and nose, and a combover hairdo, while touting a Dutch accent that proved especially divisive with critics out of the film's recent Cannes premiere.

Later this summer, Hanks will also appear in Robert Zemeckis' live-action adaptation of Pinocchio, where he'll play the living puppet's creator, Geppetto.

It's certainly a more natural casting choice for Hanks given his inherent paternal charm, though the first trailer makes it clear he's again undergone some major physical changes, rocking a curly silver wig and wispy facial hair to match.

It isn't easy to put a precise bead on the accent Hanks is going for in this case - it's certainly not outright Italian, at least - but from the small snippet we hear in the trailer it seems less jarring and distracting than his Dutch twang in Elvis.

Regardless of how these projects are received, it's refreshing to see Hanks trying to truly disappear into characters one way or another.
