10 Actors Who Brilliantly Reinvented Themselves
7. Steve Carell
Steve Carell is a name still associated with comedy - from Anchorman (2004), The 40-Year-Old Virgin (2005), Get Smart (2008) and Dinner for Schmucks (2010), he is an actor who excelled in the first half of his career thanks to his natural comedic chops, his self-deprecating humour, and his brilliant, loud acting style.
He had a brief dramatic turn in Little Miss Sunshine (2006) during this period, but it wasn't until 2014 that Carell was ready to reinvent himself. With his role as wrestling enthusiast and murderer John du Pont in the drama Foxcatcher, Carell easily cast aside his comedy roots and offered one of the best performances of the year.
But Foxcatcher was not a one-hit wonder. The actor continued to feed his need for more serious roles with movies such as The Big Short (2015), Beautiful Boy, Vice, and Welcome to Marwen (all 2018).
And though his recent role in the comedy series Space Force has seen him return to ways of his earlier career, and for some it will be forever impossible to disassociate him from The Office, there's no denying that Carell has emerged as one of Hollywood's most talented dramatic stars, destined for bigger things.
