10 Actors Who Broke The "Child Actor" Curse
1. Mara Wilson=s
Of all the success stories that have come out of child actors, perhaps the most impressive comes from the one that didn't return to the profession. Mara Wilson charmed her way into America in Danny DeVito's adaptation of Roald Dahl's Matilda, the youngest daughter in the Robin Williams vehicle Mrs. Doubtfire and the starry-eyed, Santa struck charmer in the remake of Miracle on 34th St. Soon after, though, her acting career started to derail, losing roles to actresses like Lindsay Lohan. A new, young, fresh generation of child actors was brewing, and Wilson had the foresight to know she wasn't in the crop.
Instead, she turned her talents to writing. In 2012, she wrote an artiicle for Cracked opining on the very subject of this list - the delinquency of child actors - something she witnessed first hand. The article was a success, and she's since become a well-known, insightful blogger and playwrite, often appearing on podcasts. Her book, Where Am I Now? True Stories of Girlhood and Accidental Fame, was published in 2016.
So one can surmise the lesson here is not to necessarily fear or gawk at parents forcing their children into beauty pageants. There are always outs.
