10 Actors Who Could Be The Breakout Stars Of 2018
7. Florence Pugh
You Know Her From:
Her lead performance in last year's Victorian murder drama Lady Macbeth. The film, only Pugh's second after dreamlike girls' school mystery The Falling, may not have been 2017's most widely seen, but it did have critics citing Pugh as a major talent to watch in future. It also led to a nomination for the BAFTA Rising Star Award. Past recipients including James McAvoy, Eva Green, Tom Hardy and John Boyega have all gone on to big things.
In 2018:
The latest generic Liam Neeson action-thriller, The Commuter, can currently be seen in cinemas, featuring Pugh in a minor role. It is not that, though, which will bring her to the attention of wider audiences this year.
This autumn Pugh will take the lead opposite Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as himself in true life wrestling comedy-drama Fighting With My Family. Written and directed by The Office and Extras' Stephen Merchant, based on the 2012 documentary about youngest ever WWE Divas champion Paige, the film promises to throw the star previously known for psychological indie dramas in front of a whole new audience.
She will also go from Lady Macbeth to a true Queen of Scotland when she appears as Robert the Bruce's wife Elizabeth de Burgh in Outlaw King, Hell Or High Water director David Mackenzie and Netflix's answer to Braveheart (and the streaming service's most expensive movie yet).
Pugh is also currently filming as the lead in the BBC's The Little Drummer Girl, a John Le Carre adaptation from the producers of previous award-winning Le Carre hit The Night Manager and directed by Oldboy's Park Chan-wook.
