Fans have been campaigning for Jon Hamm to be cast as Superman since the first season of Mad Men aired in 2007, but given that he's now 46 years old, many believe his chance to inherit the cape and spandex has passed.
That isn't necessarily true, since whether he's still eligible depends entirely on where Warner Bros are planning to take the character. There are many classic stories from the DC Comics vault featuring an older Superman, Mark Waid and Alex Ross's Kingdom Come being one that immediately springs to mind.
There's a possibility the studio could attempt to reinvent Supes and experiment by casting a more seasoned actor in the role, in which case they won't find anyone who looks, sounds and acts the part more than Hamm.
If the DCEU ever deals with time travel and alternative realities - which is a given since a Flashpoint movie is in the pipeline - the Mad Men star is the ideal pick for a veteran Man of Steel from the distant future.
