10 Actors Who Gave Two WILDLY Different Performances In The Same Year

7. Ryan Gosling - Drive & Crazy, Stupid, Love

Tom Cruise
FilmDistrict & Warner Bros.

Ryan Gosling has rather quietly racked up one of the most impressively diverse filmographies of any absurdly handsome A-lister working today, as was best evidenced by his stoic-charming one-two punch in 2011.

Gosling first played "The Driver" in Nicolas Winding Refn's Drive; a man of few words and even fewer social skills, who can nevertheless drive a getaway car with the best of 'em and will stomp a man's face into bloody paste without much of a second thought.

The very same summer that Drive was released, however, Gosling also appeared in rom-com Crazy, Stupid, Love, where he played a character who couldn't be much more of a polar opposite. Here Gosling took the role of Jacob Palmer, a loquacious, quick-witted charmer who prides himself on his ability to talk just about any woman he wants into bed. Well, almost.

In fact, Jacob's probably even the guy that the Driver wishes he was in some respects. That Gosling plays both parts so well is nothing if not a testament to his underrated range as a performer.
