What We Know

The Many Saints Of Newark is a film prequel to The Sopranos, and will be set during the Newark riots of the '60s. Bernthal and Farmiga were cast earlier this year, with reports at the time stating that no details about their roles have been disclosed.

Who They Might Be Playing

The film will feature a young version of Tony Soprano (played by Michael Gandolfini, son of Tony's actor James Gandolfini), which could mean we'll see younger versions of other Sopranos characters too.

Indeed, when they first broke the news of Bernthal's and Farmiga's casting, Variety noted that "more players from the Sopranos lore are expected to be joining the cast", which might indicate that the two actors are playing younger versions of characters from the show.

Bernthal and Farmiga are both decades older than Michael Gandolfini, so if they are playing young Sopranos characters, then they will be characters who were older than Tony during the original show.
