What We Know

Quentin Tarantino's upcoming Once Upon A Time In Hollywood has an absolute boatload of actors cast in unspecified roles (seriously, the cast section of its Wikipedia page contains more names than a phone book), but James Marsden's stands out for one key reason.

At the time his casting was announced, Variety's Justin Kroll noted that the actor's role was the only one that wasn't accompanied by any additional details: the studio asked him to keep Marsden's part a secret.

Other than that, Kroll noted that the actor's role will be "small", but the fact that the studio wishes to keep this one specific part a secret is a very interesting detail indeed.

Who He Might Be Playing

At the time, there was some speculation that Marsden would be playing Charles Manson, but that role has been filled by someone else since.

The film will cover the true story of the Manson family murders so there are a whole host of real-life figures Marsden could be playing, but at this stage, the major ones (like Roman Polanski and the aforementioned Manson) have been cast.

Another part of the film's story will be the tale of struggling actor Rick Dalton as he tries to break into the film industry in the late '60s, contemplating moving to Italy to star in low-budget westerns. This in mind, perhaps Marsden will play a prolific movie star from that time period - maybe even someone associated with westerns, like John Wayne?
