2. Adam Sandler
Career High: Punch-Drunk Love Career Low: Grown-Ups What would you prefer? Another God-awful "comedy" directed by Dennis Duggan and featuring Sandler and his usual cast of buddies - David Spade, Rob Schneider, Kevin James - or an infinitely less moronic film like Funny People, or Reign Over Me or Punch-Drunk Love. At this stage I'd even add 50 First Dates to that small list of Sandler's best films, given how much better it is than almost all of the recent films he has been part of. For way too long Sandler has been treading water, too happy to accept the criticisms often levelled at him that he doesn't have it in him to offer an impressive performance instead of trying to prove them wrong. And in the decision to make Grown-Ups 2 - a sequel to a film that was panned from all angles, Sandler is merely providing further ammunition, and clearly making films of the quality of That's My Boy hardly suggests that Sandler's career is going to career to generate him much profit. Let's hope he decides to take a serious turn sooner rather than later, or at least begins to realise that there is an awful lot more to comedy than the staples of his recent films.
