10 Actors Who Just Quit HUGE Movies
7. Ryan Gosling - Wolf Man
A reboot of Universal's classic creature feature The Wolfman was first announced way back in 2014 as part of the studio's fast-doomed Dark Universe.
In May 2020, however, it was retooled as a separate project pitched by Ryan Gosling, with filmmaker Leigh Whannell (The Invisible Man) ultimately hired to both co-write and direct the new take, titled Wolf Man.
But last December, Gosling took his leave of the lead role alongside previously hired director Derek Cianfrance, though would remain on the film as an executive producer.
As for his replacement? The great Christopher Abbott, who has been killing it in a bevy of quality left-field films over the last few years - including but not limited to Black Bear, Possessor, On the Count of Three, Sanctuary, and Poor Things - will now play the titular lycanthrope.
Abbott may lack the star sizzle of Gosling, but he's a fantastic actor in his own right and, honestly, probably a more interesting pick for the part anyway. Everything worked out just fine.
