10 Actors Who Lost Roles Because They Got Greedy

1. Halle Berry - Multiple Roles (Probably)

Much like when any actor or actress wins an Oscar, their salaries skyrocket. Halle Berry was no exception following her win for Monster's Ball in 2001, but her tall price and series of big budget flops following her win can be said to have tanked her career while still at what was supposed to be its peak.

Berry's roles after Monster's Ball were not cheap endeavours, nor were they any good. Aside from her ongoing role as Storm in the X-Men franchise, Berry's three films following her win all carried hefty price tags, but worked to tanking her reputation.

First was Die Another Day, which Berry bagged $4 million for despite receiving mixed reviews and being less of a financial success than would have been wanted from a $140 million production budget. Next was Gothika, which earned her $6 million and dire reviews. And next was Catwoman, which earned her an enormous $14 million... and is still a laughing stock to this day.

No one can blame Berry for capitalising on her Monster's Ball success. But her poor role decisions in order to earn those top dollar salaries could have cost her much more meaningful roles that she was offered but didn't have the budget to pay her for. It's unfortunate for Berry that her big budget turns proved unsuccessful for her career, as the right franchise could have skyrocketed her even more. Her post Catwoman career wasn't exactly promising either, as her diminishing star power following the string of failures meant - much like Taylor Lautner - she just wasn't worth the price she was asking anymore.

Berry has seen greater success in in franchise sequels in recent years, with scene-stealing roles in John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum and Kingsmen: The Golden Circle.
