10 Actors Who Lost Roles Because They Got Greedy
3. Crispin Glover - Back To The Future Sequels
The story of Crispin Glover's falling out with the Back to the Future team is infamous, and even resulted in a lawsuit that set a precedent for actor's representation onscreen.
The report is that Glover didn't like the script for Back to the Future Part II, and demanded a $1 million salary to reprise his role against the $150,000 he had initially been offered. To put this demand in perspective, Thomas F. Wilson - who plays Biff Tannen in the series - was paid $350,000 for the sequel, in which his character plays a significantly larger role than Glover's.
The studio refused Glover's counter-offer, and chose to continue production without him. According to Glover, he expected the filmmakers to recast his role, which he "would have been completely fine with" due to its legality. But the filmmakers instead dressed another actor up in such heavy prosthetic makeup made from an old cast of Glover's face to trick audiences into believing it was really Glover on the screen, which would result in the lawsuit. Glover even stated that Steven Spielberg spoke to replacement actor Jeffrey Weissman on set and said: "Hey Crispin, I see you got your million."
While Glover missed out on a continuing part in an iconic franchise, his settlement was an unconfirmed $760,000. Still not his million, but the whole debacle seemed to overshadow Glover's entire career going forward.
