It's certainly well documented how little regard Hollywood has historically had for women once they hit a certain age, and at the ripe age of 29, Nia Long was deemed "too old" to play one of the three leads in 2000's big-screen Charlie's Angels reboot.

Long was considered to play Alex Munday, as was eventually played by Lucy Liu, though she revealed in a 2020 Insider interview that she received the feedback that she "looked too old and sophisticated" to be starring alongside Drew Barrymore, who is barely four years younger than her.

In addition to this, Long was less than two years older than Lucy Liu. As such, Long added that she felt there was ultimately a racial component to her not being cast beyond her mere age:

"I love Drew Barrymore, I think she's amazing, but I think that was just a nice way to say you're a little too Black. Personally, that's what I think. Because if you notice there were no brown skin [actors]. I mean, honestly, I would have been the blackest thing in the film."
