10 Actors Who Saved Their Careers By Starring In Horror Movies
4. Milla Jovovich - Resident Evil
Though Milla Jovovich's Hollywood career began in 1988 at the age of just 13, she took a four-year acting hiatus in 1993 after her role in Dazed and Confused was disappointingly trimmed down.
Jovovich came back with a vengeance in 1997's The Fifth Element, memorably playing oddball sidekick Leeloo, though the years that followed saw her take only a handful of roles, the majority of which received a mixed critical response.
But Jovovich became an international icon when she starred in 2002's video game adaptation Resident Evil, directed by her future husband Paul W.S. Anderson.
The horror-action film proved a solid commercial hit despite mixed reviews, and kickstarted a phenomenally successful six-film franchise which finally wrapped up in 2016.
Though it's fair to say that Jovovich's filmography is wildly inconsistent, she nevertheless become a global genre icon thanks to Resident Evil, no matter that her protagonist Alice didn't even appear in the video games.
Given that Jovovich basically seems primed to play the protagonist in every movie her husband makes from now until the end of time - the next being Monster Hunter - it's safe to say that Resident Evil set her on the right path.
