10 Actors Who Should Play The Joker In Suicide Squad

3. Joaquin Phoenix

Earlier this year, reports surfaced that Joaquin Phoenix was being eyed for the part of Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, before finding himself in 'final talks' to take on the title role in Marvel's Doctor Strange. While those negotiations unfortunately broke down, perhaps the actor could be tempted to take his career in a different direction and sign on to another comic book movie and join the expanding DC Cinematic Universe as the Joker. Phoenix hasn't starred in a big-budget movie since Gladiator way back in 2000, and in the intervening years the actor has gone on to establish himself as one of the very best in the business. While he seems particular about the projects he signs on to these days, Phoenix is all-but-guaranteed to deliver a strong performance, with his recent work in The Master and Her two brilliant showcases for an actor at the top of their game. Reports have indicated that Phoenix is now more open to signing on to a studio blockbuster, and the thought of the actor playing the Joker is a mouthwatering prospect. At 40, the three-time Academy Award nominee is roughly the same age as Ben Affleck and could turn in a performance that is radically different to the previous big-screen incarnations of the character, yet unforgettable in its own right.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
