10 Actors Who Took Movie Roles For Weird Reasons
1. Pete Davidson Loved The Character's Name - The Suicide Squad
In a movie industry obsessed with sequels and reboots, it was still weird to have a film that was kind of a mix of both, set in the same cinematic universe with many of the same characters, and released just five years after the original.
James Gunn's The Suicide Squad was a definite improvement on David Ayer's Suicide Squad (though the bar couldn't have been much lower), as the former set audiences to guessing right from the very beginning. Yes, the cast of characters was way bigger than before, but this was only because more than half of them were killed during the opening moments.
One such character was Pete Davidson's Blackguard. Though not on screen enough to have any real character development opportunities, there was one aspect that drew Davidson in immediately.
There could be anything that connects an actor to a character, though likely not very often by their name alone. Particularly if their name is Dick Hertz. As soon as James Gunn told Davidson the name however, he was all in (check the 04:26 mark above).
