10 Actors Who Will Never Escape Their Doctor Who Roles
8. Matt Smith
Because once you're the incarnation of the Doctor who catapults the world's longest running sci-fi series into uncharted levels of international success, you're pretty much set for life. Matt Smith was responsible for rocketing Doctor Who's global appreciation to a whole new level thanks to his praised portrayal of the titular Time Lord's eleventh incarnation. After being written off before he'd even appeared on screen, he quickly established himself as one of TV's most popular heroes ever and there wasn't a dry eye in the house when he faced his final curtain call on Christmas Day 2013. In fact, we're still not over it. And neither is he, apparently. Matt's mobsters were reassured by the fact that their idol had been handpicked to star in Ryan Gosling's directorial debut but Lost River ultimately received a limited release earlier this year and it really should've been a much bigger deal than it was. Oh, well. At least Matt will be back on the big screen this summer in the eagerly anticipated Terminator Genisys reboot. Don't let the trailers fool you. He's definitely in it.
