10 Actors Whose Next Movie Might Be Their Best

6. Jessie Buckley - Men

Oppenheimer Cillian Murphy

Jessie Buckley's ascent to acting stardom has been nothing short of meteoric, defined by masterful performances in the likes of Beast, Wild Rose, I'm Thinking of Ending Things, and The Lost Daughter, the latter even scooping her a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination.

But Buckley's next film presents a unique acting opportunity as she takes her first step into the horror genre with Men. Buckley plays Harper, a recently bereaved woman who finds herself terrorised by a masculine presence while on a solo vacation in the English countryside.

In recent years, artsy horror has proven itself to be a viable vehicle for talented actresses to give career-best performances: Toni Collette in Hereditary, Lupita Nyong'o in Us, and Florence Pugh in Midsommar, to name just a few.

Better yet, Men is being directed by Alex Garland, whose prior genre films Ex-Machina and Annihilation teased out phenomenal performances from Alicia Vikander and Natalie Portman.

The teaser trailer doesn't give much away - it is an A24 trailer after all - but nevertheless confirms Men will be a richly atmospheric canvas on which Buckley can adventurously flex her acting chops.

The Academy is famously prejudiced against nominating performances in horror films, but Men may well allow Buckley to take her acting to an intense, volcanic place like we've never seen before.
