10 Actors With Game-Changing Movie Roles Coming Up

1. Brendan Fraser - The Whale

You knew it was coming. Brendan Fraser was on top of the world during the late '90s through to the early '00s. The actor was a household name earning big bucks and establishing himself as one of Hollywood’s leading men and action stars. Since then, it would be more than fair to say Brendan’s career fell short at the last hurdle, but by no fault of his own. Plagued by personal tragedy and physical injuries, the Hollywood pendulum swung Fraser from hero to zero.

The Mummy mainstay has suffered the highs and lows of the industry, which makes this role all the more special and significant for him. The 53-year-old's portrayal of Charlie for A24's The Whale has earned Fraser some serious Academy-Award buzz, and the character feels like a part he was born to play, as the actor described the role in conversation with GQ as "destiny calling" for him to take it.

Arguably the front-runner for next year’s Best Actor at the Oscars, director Darren Aronofsky has provided the perfect platform for Fraser to showcase his rediscovered talent to the world. Aronofsky has a knack for bringing the seemingly forgotten back into the fray having orchestrated the ‘ResuRourketion’ back in 2008 for Mickey Rourke’s The Wrestler and now the ‘Brenaissance’ is in full swing. Kudos indeed sir.
