10 Actors You Won't Believe Have Never Been Nominated For An Oscar
6. Marilyn Monroe
Marilyn Monroe is remembered today as a brand rather than an actress, to whom the word 'iconic' is often applied and whose face is plastered over social networks attached to quotes of dubious authenticity. She's usually described as a sex symbol whose substance abuse eventually led to her death, but Monroe was a talented comedic actress whose work was worthy of at least an Oscar nomination. She never received one. Some Like It Hot (1959) is perhaps the best example of her ability. Monroe plays Sugar, vocalist and ukulele player for an all-female band, and turns up the dial for sensuality as far as it'll go. She plays off Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon with fantastic comic timing, but while Lemmon was nominated for Best Actor and the film received five other nominations, a Best Actress nod was not among them. Monroe did, however, win the Golden Globe for her performance.
