5. John Goodman

Despite his frequent collaborations with the Coen brothers and his popularity as a comedic actor, John Goodman has never been nominated for an Oscar. Admittedly, he has been recognised for his vast body of work in television, but his roles on the big screen haven't exactly been forgettable. He was nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance in Barton Fink (1991), but the Academy didn't follow suit, and last year's Inside Llewyn Davies didn't come through for him either. Goodman's chances of an Oscar are likely reduced by the fact that he regularly returns to TV and stars in mainly comedies rather than the heavyweight dramas preferred by the Academy. Still, perhaps in future he will be recognised for his always stellar work as a supporting actor.
