10 Actors You Didn't Know Played The Same Character In Different Movies - Commenter Edition

Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy are straight-up iconic as Jesse and Celine, the star-crossed lovers and eventual married couple central to Richard Linklater's masterful Before trilogy.

But the pair actually appeared together as Jesse and Celine in a fourth Linklater movie, his experimental 2001 animated film Waking Life, which would serve as the visual basis for his 2006 animation A Scanner Darkly.

One of the film's segments sees Hawke and Delpy laying in bed discussing the nature of memory and consciousness, and though the duo aren't ever mentioned by name, it's abundantly clear the scene is depicting Jesse and Celine.

This was especially provocative at the time as Linklater and co. hadn't yet made any sequels to Before Sunrise, and the Waking Life segment seemed to suggest that Jesse and Celine did indeed meet up at the train station six months after the events of the film.

However, this is invalidated by Before Sunset, which confirms this didn't happen, and so fans are basically left to assume the Waking Life scene is, like most other scenes in the film, an idealised dream of either Jesse or Celine's. Still, it counts.
