10 Actors You Forgot Had Minor Roles In War Movies

9. Forest Whitaker - Platoon

Jarhead/A Quiet Place

Platoon centres around a morally compromised military unit fighting in the Vietnam War. Because the story was heavily based on the experiences of the director, Oliver Stone, Platoon was praised for pulling no punches in depicting the brutality and ineptitude of American soldiers, even when they were in the midst of battle. Because of the tight script, amazing actors, and beautiful score, Platoon isn't just one of the best war movies but one of the most watchable.

But upon every viewing, people tend to spot an actor they didn't notice before. Even though Charlie Sheen and Willem Dafoe are the stars, eagle-eyed viewers will also recognise Tony Todd, John C. McGinley, Kevin Dillon, and Johnny Depp.

However, one actor that's commonly missed is Forest Whitaker, who portrays infantry officer, Big Harold. (Despite his name, he's actually pretty thin.) Even though Whitaker has a distinctive look and appears in a lot of key scenes (He's the soldier who tumbles down the hill during the intro), the camera never lingers on him for too long for viewers to recognise the Oscar-winning performer.
