10 Actors You Never Knew Directed A Movie

1. Nicolas Cage - Sonny (2002)

That's right, the polarising cinematic legend known as Nicolas Cage directed his very own movie in 2002, called Sonny.

In the early 2000s, Cage was riding high from the stonking success of his 1990s and found himself in the director's chair for the first and only time. The movie follows the titular character Sonny (James Franco) who after returning from the army struggles to find work. As a result, he finds himself drawn back into working for his mother as a gigolo. Unusual stuff for sure, but the most unusual thing is Cage's character name in the movie... Acid Yellow.

Sadly, despite the fact this movie was released in the same year that he starred in Windtalkers and Adaptation, the latter of which he was nominated for an Oscar for, the reviews for Sonny were very much in line with his most recent movie output. Poor. The Metacritic score for Sonny is 31, and sadly Cage hasn't directed since. Considering how often he steps in front of the camera these days, it's a surprise not to see him behind it even for one more time.
