Believe it or not, the first time Johnny Depp played a Native American was not in The Lone Ranger. He also played one in his directorial debut, a movie called The Brave.

Though he's been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons of late, there's no denying Depp is a talented performer and it appears that talent extends behind the camera too. The Brave is both Depp's directorial and writing debut, and somehow it features the legendary Marlon Brando.

Directed from the novel of the same name, The Brave follows an American Indian who returns from prison and struggling to support his family. Finding his situation horribly desperate, he's offered the opportunity to star in a snuff movie as he decides to sacrifice himself for the sake of his family.

The subject matter is unpleasant, and the movie did not resonate with critics in any way. As a result, the movie never got a theatrical release in America and Depp hasn't directed a movie since.
