10 Actresses Whose Careers Didn’t Flourish After They Were Bond Girls

2. Claudine Auger

French actress, Claudine Auger portrayed the role of leading Bond Girl, Domino Derval in Thunderball (1965), after having been seen by the film’s producer, Kevin McClory holidaying in Nassau, The Bahamas.

Despite being French, as opposed to the Italian character of the novel, she impressed the producers so much that they rewrote the part for her.

Sadly, although Thunderball is one of the most financially successful Bond films, Auger’s career did not benefit much from it.

She appeared in a poorly received film, Triple Cross (1966), directed by Terence Young (who had also helmed Thunderball) before focusing on European films instead. Although these admittedly made her a familiar face on the Continent, they failed to increase her popularity in the USA and the UK, particularly as many were low budget French and Italian horror films.

One of her last acting roles was opposite Jeremy Brett’s Sherlock Holmes in The Three Gables (1994). She retired from acting in 1995 and sadly passed away in December 2019, just under a year before her James Bond, Sean Connery.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
