10 Alien Mistakes Neill Blomkamp Should Totally Erase

6. That Egg On The Sulaco

Alien 3 opens and instantly presents the notion that an Alien queen somehow managed to lay an egg on the Sulaco, the ship that Ripley, Newt and Hicks escape on following the events of Aliens, which - in turn - leads to the death of Ripley's companions and and an Alien growing inside of her. Fans of the series have debated these happenings ever since they were first proposed, of course, given that no such event - that is, an egg-laying - occurred in Aliens. "Oh, it happened off-screen," seems to be the most common response to this narrative quandary from all those who were involved in the production, but c'mon - that just isn't good enough. It sounds a whole lot like lazy screenwriting, and given that Blomkamp is likely to write out the deaths of Hicks and Newt, there seems to be no good reason why a plot point like this might stay canonised within the franchise. After all, the mystery egg thing has only ever served as an excuse for the events of Alien 3 to take place; the series would really benefit from the removal of this lame excuse for a narrative set-up.
