10 Alternative Film & TV Characters To Dress-Up As This Halloween

3. Tom Cruise in "Vanilla Sky"

I'm not sure it was ever Cameron Crowe's intention for his remake of the Spanish film "Open Your Eyes" to be frightening, and for the most part it wasn't at all, but Tom Cruise in his white facial mask to cover his disfigured but barely repulsive face (certainly he was more attractive with the disfigurement than with the mask he wears to cover it)... certainly gave me the shivers. Admittedly you would probably sound like a bit of a douche having to explain to people that you were Tom Cruises character from Vanilla Sky- especially considering that the film has no connections to Halloween and (although I enjoyed it) had very very mixed critical reviews. That said though, it depends what kind of party you go to, and if it is one full of geeks maybe they'd find this at least a little amusing. At the very least though, if you are all out of ideas you could easily pick up a mask like this at any good fancy dress store and it's at least more interesting and creative than going as a vampire. That said, if you are a major Tom Cruise fan you could always go as his vampire character from "Interview with a Vampire" named Lestat, and his shirt with no trouser look from "Risky Business" sure is a popular choice at many fancy dress parties. If you wanted to be a little more obscure however and maybe gain some geek cred with movie lovers, you could always adapt the mask in "Vanilla Sky" to make it look like the one he wears in Stanley Kubrick's "Eyes Wide Shut" which is really just the same mask with a golden eye mask stuck over it... and a black cloak of course. This movie is probably also meant to be scarier than Vanilla Sky... I at least was frightened during many parts of that movie...as I am if I'm honest during most of Kubrick's films... even Barry Lyndon and 2001: A Space Odyssey.

I am a recent Screenwriting for Film and Television graduate from the UK. I am an unashamed geek who loves everything Marvel, and anything Joss Whedon has ever touched (except for maybe Alien Resurrection and Titan A.E). My current favorite TV shows are Breaking Bad, Family Guy, House of Cards, Game of Thrones, American Horror Story, Homeland and Glee. I look forward to debating things with all of you in the future.
