10 Amazing Animated Film Soundtracks From The Last 10 Years
9. Strange Magic
A film panned by critics but surprisingly enjoyable nonetheless, George Lucas's attempt at a kid's animated film marketed towards girls was a strange jukebox musical that gave audiences excellent renditions of popular songs with an equally excellent cast of singing and voice acting talent.
One of the best songs in the film is a mashup of the Four Seasons's "C'mon Marianne" and Kelly Clarkson's "Stronger", two songs from two entirely different eras and genres that work well within the context of the story. The way the film delineates romantic and cheerful pop music for the land of fairies and light, and hard rock for the bogland and darkness, is also a fun element to the way the jukebox songs are rendered, from The Supremes's "Sugar Pie Honeybunch" to Deep Purple's "Mistreated".
Evan Rachel Wood and Alan Cumming do a fantastic job as the two leads in this off-beat twist of a fairytale, and their singing talents lend themselves well to the way genres come together in the film's only original song, "Strange Magic", a beautiful and romantic rock ballad.
Even if this film isn't to your tastes, the soundtrack is definitely worth a listen.
