10 Amazing Costume Designs From Mediocre Films
4. The Evil Queen - Snow White And The Huntsman
While some of the pacing and acting in this film left much to be desired, this film is on the better side of "okay", and one of the better "dark fairytales" Hollywood had been obsessed with adapting in the 2000s and 2010s. Like it or hate it, however, none could deny that it was a visual feast for the eyes, with production design going above and beyond to be one of the most visually striking films of the past few decades.
The design work on this film was impeccable all around, but in terms of costume alone, the evil queen beats out all the rest by a huge margin, her many outfits representing both a time in her life and symbolism that give the film complexity. From round-edged and pure-seeming to sharp and brutalistic, the queen's dresses of metal and bone show her to be a terrifying and ruthless foe even before you see her suck the life out of young women.
Colleen Atwood again does a remarkable job with all characters in this film, but the queen gets special mention for being the fairest, and most terrifying, of them all.
