10 Amazing Horror Movies That Almost Never Got Made
6. Under The Skin (2013)
While many think of Alien movies as globe-trotting escapades with goofy Martians or horrifying insectoid-like creatures, Johnathan Glazer's Under the Skin takes a very different approach. This quiet and atmospheric horror instead centres on a sheep in wolf's clothing, as an extra-terrestrial being prowls the streets of Glasgow in the shape of a woman, preying on those lured in by her looks.
It's a phenomenal approach to sci-fi horror, yet it nearly didn't happen.
Under the Skin began as an idea in 2000 but didn't come to fruition for another 13 years. According to The Guardian, while Glazer knew he wanted to adapt Michel Faber's book of the same name, he rejected the first script that came across his desk, claiming it was too close to the novel. From there, the film sat in production limbo, with a few versions conceived, one of which would have focussed on an alien couple pretending to be farmers, with Brad Pitt cast as the husband (yes, really).
Things eventually took shape, after much reworking, becoming the incredible masterpiece this film was always meant to be. Thank the heavens.
